Breast Reduction Surgery involves removal of excess breast tissue, extra skin and moves nipple to new position.
Anaesthesia:
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. It generally takes 2-3 hours and you can return home by evening or next day.
Breast Reduction Markings:
Breast Reduction markings to plan the surgery is a very essential step. It is crucial to get it right to achieve the optimum results and success of the surgery.
It takes me around 30-40 mins to do markings in consultation with patients as it’s the surgical blueprint and I make sure to follow the brief to the T.
Surgical Technique:
Breast reduction is done to reduce the size of the breast, lift it, add volume in upper pole if needed.
There are two basic techniques and the choice depends on breast size and sagging.
- Vertical breast reduction is preferred for moderate size breasts and sagging. The incision given is in the shape of lollipop that starts around areola and then running down just above the bottom of breast.
- Inverted-T breast reduction: is preferred for large size breasts and sagging. The incision given is in the shape of anchor/ inverted that starts around areola and running vertical down to crease beneath the breast.
Dr.Chugh uses the latest technique of superio-medial pedicle breast reduction with short scar technique. This ensures a scar which is well hidden and camouflages with rest of the breast gradually.
Along with removal of extra skin, breast tissue, rotation of nipple to new position it also entails liposuction of axilla area to give perkier look to breast.
